You will write your evidence-based proposal to support the need for a new nurse informaticist who would focus on developing and implementing clinical decision support systems to enhance patient safety.
• Developing and Implementing Clinical Decision Support Systems (CDSS) to Enhance Patient Safety: o Background: Clinical Decision Support Systems (CDSS) are health information technology systems designed to provide physicians and other health professionals with clinical decision support (CDS), that is, assistance with clinical decision-making tasks.
o Benefits: Studies have shown that CDSS can significantly reduce diagnostic errors, improve patient safety by providing real-time alerts for potential drug interactions or contraindications, and integrating CDSS with Electronic Health Records (EHR) for seamless patient care. For instance, a CDSS can alert a physician if they try to prescribe a drug that could cause an allergic reaction in a patient.
