You will write a short, 3-4 page paper critiquing a Digital Humanities project (either one you find on your own, or one from the DH spotlights in the DIGHUM 100 bCourse). NOTE: The DH project CAN NOT be the project you used for your Technical Analysis. In your paper, you need to do the following:
State the project title and the institution/principal investigator responsible for its creation
A brief overview of key components of the project
How the project addresses accessibility
Problems/issues you identify in the project (For example, are all of the links up-to-date or are some of them “broken”? Do some of the services only work with specific a OS? Can the project be easily used on a mobile device?)
A critical analysis of the project’s content, goals, and / or purpose, using 1-2 of the theories or methods covered in DIGHUM100. In using these theories or methods, you should quote and paraphrase from them and show how the project embraces or conflicts with this theory / method, and what value the project has as a result of your interpretation.
A concluding paragraph that indicates how your interpretation of this project will help you apply or use theoretical approaches, strategies, or methods in the group project (you can be speculative here if you are still curious or unsure of how this application will work; we just want to see some thought going into creating using these theories too!)
You many use any combination of readings from this course, or any reading on its own. The goal is to prepare you for using these theories more readily on your own and, of course, using them effectively to produce effective, engaging, and meaningful digital humanities projects as a group.
Good luck and good writing!
