Write an essay about the concert. Report on both the culture and atmosphere of the concert,
and the music itself. It would be wise to take notes during or right after the concert.
a. Your essay needs to be at least 500 words long at the top you must have:
i. Concert title and date
ii. Either a link to the concert video or a selfie
b. Consider some of these issues in your essay when applicable:
i. Program notes
c. Is there a theme to the concert? Eg. music by a certain composer, or from a
particular region or country.
d. Do you notice the performers using any interesting body language?
e. Who are the leaders in the performance? Is there a conductor? Is there one person
that seems to give the signal to begin every piece?
f. What is the atmosphere like? Formal? Informal? Do you think this has any
relationship to the type of music chosen for the concert?
g. What types of instruments are used? What types of ensembles? Eg. wind band,
string quartet, symphony, etc.
h. Briefly describe the styles of the pieces, especially compared to music you’ve
encountered before in class. For example, does anything you hear sound like music
from a particular time period, or similar to a particular composer or piece you’ve
already encountered? Make a comparison.
i. Consider on focusing on one or two pieces in particular and describing them using
your musical vocabulary.
j. Did you enjoy the concert? Feel free to be honest.
k. Was there anything about the concert experience that surprised you?
l. Did you like or dislike any pieces in particular
