Writing Prompt:
Chaucer’s Prologue describes various people in connection with their profession. Analyze the Skipper’s description.  Explain two things the Skipper’s description reveals about people in his occupation. Using APA format, provide details from the poem referencing specific line numbers to support each idea.

Cover Page – include the following information, centered
Title of Assignment

Course Name
Essay – follow structure/sample outline explained below
References – written on separate page after the essay 
Literary analysis essay structure:
4-5 paragraph essay structure (an introduction, body paragraphs and conclusion).
Introduction should:
introduce the literary text and author
provide a very brief summary of the text 
state the topic/thesis for your essay
Body paragraph(s) should:
provide support and evidence of the topic, citing line numbers
Conclusion should wrap up the essay and reflect back on the topic/thesis
How to reference line numbers in APA format:
Paraphrase Example:  Line 417 explains how the Skipper was not a very skilled horseman (Chaucer, n.d.).
Direct Quote Example: Line 417 states, “Road a farm horse as best he could” (Chaucer,  n.d.). 
OR
Paraphrase Example:  The Skipper wears a long woolen gown (Chaucer, n.d., line 418).
Direct Quote Example: “In a woolen gown that reached his knee” (Chaucer, n.d., line 418).
The complete citation for the  reference page, which is listed  on a separate page after your essay, should be written as follows:
