Narrative of a Revolutionary Soldier is one of the best narratives of the
American Revolution (and particularly from the perspectives of a common
soldier) ever written.  After reading
Martin’s memoir, write a three-four page
book critique that addresses the questions below.  Formatting for  essays:  Times New Roman font, double-spaced, 12 point
font, and with one-inch margins.
1). The subtitle of Martin’s book is Some of the
Adventures, Dangers, and Sufferings of Joseph Plum Martin.  The “suffering” element is a persistent
theme throughout the book.  In what ways
did Martin suffer (physically, mentally, or emotionally) as a Continental
soldier? 
2).  What were
some of the “adventures” that Martin experienced as a Revolutionary soldier?
3).  How did
Martin understand the American Revolution? 
Was he patriotically motivated and genuinely believed in independence
from England?  Or not?  How did he view his fellow soldiers and
colonists?
