1. What is Jefferson’s views towards Africans? How could Jefferson reconcile these statements in this document, his ownership of slaves, and his writing in the Declaration of Independence that, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.”
2. What is George Washington’s feelings about the events in Massachusetts? Consider the debates during the period of proper forms of government and assess where Washington fits within those debates? How would Washington compare to someone like Jefferson on the issues?
