Compare/contrast Essay: You will be comparing or contrasting the two short stories below:
Jhumpa Lahiri’s “Temporary Matter
Edgar Allen Poe’s “The Tell-Tale Heart”
Produce:
A thesis statement with an accompanying outline
Write one or two sentences that will be the thesis statement for your essay, and come up with three points that support it and using the Literary Analysis Essay Outline Template develop an outline of your essay which shows each point and how the point will be supported from the stories you have chosen. Evaluation Criteria:
1. Thesis is strong and focused and includes the main points to be discussed in the essay. 
2. Introductory paragraph appropriately introduces the stories to be discussed. 
3. Two to three body paragraphs contain main points to be compared/contrasted. Main points serve to support the thesis statement. 
4. Main points are supported by appropriate quotes or paraphrasing of quotes from the text. 
5. Quotes are fully explained. 
6. The essay gives equal attention to each story. 
7. Concluding paragraph sums up the findings appropriately in a way that doesn’t simply rephrase the thesis statement. 
8. All paragraphs are well-structured, organized and cohesive. 
9.  There are very few grammatical, mechanical or fluency errors.
