In an organized essay, describe/summarize the kinds of information the site or report includes,
focusing specifically on information that would interest health care providers. (What kinds
of data or information are included? Who would find the site useful? etc.) Again, you are not
summarizing all of the information available. You are summarizing the KINDS of information
available. Please see the student example to get a sense of what this means. Do NOT copy and
paste passages from the site and do NOT “patchwrite.” (If you have not read the explanation of
plagiarism and patchwriting, go back to read the assignment!) If you are describing a shorter
document (1-10 pages), make sure to include the entire document. If you are describing a lengthy
report or website, it’s appropriate to focus on relevant subheadings or tabs.
Use essay format. This means:
 Provide a brief introductory paragraph that announces your purpose. End the
introduction with a thesis statement that previews (announces) your topics in the order
that they’re discussed.
 Indent the first line of each new paragraph and provide summary topic sentences for body
paragraphs. (You’ll likely write 2 or 3 body paragraphs.)
 Illustrate/support topic sentences with specific examples. If you quote, you should
introduce the material using your own words. No citation is required.
 Provide a concluding paragraph.
 At the end of the essay, include a link to the site or document you summarized. It does
not need to be a formal References entry.
Your essay should be 450-700 words long, single-spaced, and free of surface errors (grammar,
punctuation, and spelling). Write for your peers (other students in English 315) and your
instructor.
