Intravenous fluids are immediately
circulated throughout the body. It is imperative that the nurse follow
protocols and utilize evidence-based practice to ensure safe patient
outcomes when administering anything via an intravenous route due to the
immediate effect. Understanding the importance and role of protocols
and proper administration techniques can deter any adverse effects.
Alone,
skills are not high-level learning activities, but reflection can be
used to strengthen the application process and enhance the critical
thinking associated with skill performance.
Now
that you have completed the ATI modules related to administering
intravenous fluids, let’s engage in a conversation on the importance of
fluid administration. Please respond to the following prompts utilizing
the textbooks to include evidence-based information in your post. Please
cite and reference using APA 7th edition.
How
would you know that a patient is making progress toward meeting
identified outcomes related to fluid, electrolyte, and acid-base
balance?
How
would the care of a patient and fluid administration have differed if
the patient had a peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC)?
What is the process for accessing a central venous device?
What would you have done if the solutions were not y-site compatible?
