Individual Paper Assignment Instructions
For the individual paper assignment, students are to write a 2–3-page paper that is to be done in Times New Roman font, double spaced, with normal margins. If the paper does not follow this format, it will be marked down five points before grading begins. This paper is due by 11:59 pm on 7/2/2024. This paper can only be turned in as either a word (doc) or PDF document. I am unable to access any MacBook or Pages documents so please do not submit your paper in that format.
For the paper, students will be required to develop a policy or program to address a specific sex offender. The type of sex offender is up to the student (see list below), but the program or policy should be developed specifically for the type of sex offender that is chosen. The idea is that you develop a policy or program that addresses the needs and risks of the specific offender. The needs and risks of the specific offender should be identified from the material that you have learned in class or from peer-reviewed articles in the Criminal Justice Abstracts Database.
The offenders that you may choose from are juvenile sex offenders, female sex offenders, or cybersex offenders. When you pick your offender, you need to specify which one you are picking in that category. For example, if you pick a female sex offender, you will say that you are doing the teacher/lover offender from Matthews et. al.’s typology. You want to be specific on your offender type because that helps to make a more specific policy and program to address the offender’s risks and needs.
In your paper you must include the following sections:
1. Discuss who your sex offender
a. Description of the offender
b. Description of their victim
c. Description of the offender’s risk and needs
2. Discuss the policy/program recommendation
a. previous research (either from the textbook of peer-reviewed articles)
b. your recommended policy/program for your offender type
c.  why you think the policy/program will be successful at reducing recidivism among your specific type of offender
