title, thesis statement
Right now, the paper reads like a collection of individual analyses of different paintings and not like a cohesive paper that presents one main argument. It seems like each painting has its own analysis and its own argument, and I am struggling to see what we might call the “sum of its parts.” What argument can you make that brings all of these paintings together? What can these paintings tell us collectively about the way artists in the Renaissance saw the natural and built environment? I think it would be better if you restructured your paper. Instead of talking about each painting one at at time, structure your paper around the lessons this artwork teaches us about understandings of the environment during the Renaissance, and then organize your paper around those understandings. This will allow you to draw on multiple paintings for evidence of the same argument, rather than discussing the papers one at a time. After all, your purpose here is not to analyzes these paintings individually. It is to use these paintings as evidence to tell us what people during the Renaissance thought about the natural and built environment. Your paper will do this much better if you integrate your analysis of the paintings together rather than separate them. To sum up, we need a specific thesis statement that reflects what we can learn from all of these works, and we need a new structure that integrates our analysis of the artworks together.
need a sharing topic for the artworks
for example,
– Renaissance painters extolled their own architecture by associating it with the classical world and juxtaposing it with christian imagery. anaylze a few paintings to show how this is true
– renaissance painters also used architecture to demonstrate their skill through advanced techniques like tompe de oile. analyse a few examples
I still want to use the sources that I listed on my outline
– the five paintings
– and the secondary sources
