Clinical Practice Module 3: Cultural Self-Assessment
After reading the AACN guidelines for cultural competency, perform a cultural self-assessment and holistically communicate your findings to a family member or friend. Write down a transcript of your conversation and turn it in along with your written self-assessment.
Discuss these topics as part of your cultural self-assessment:
Your own cultural background
Family of origin
Advantages and disadvantages of belonging to own ethnic/racial group
Biases, prejudices and stereotypes about own group and others
Similarities and differences between own group and others
