Essay #1 (Analysis): Cormac McCarthy’s The Road
In what ways does The Road speculate about our future based on the worldview (beliefs, values, attitudes, and
expectations) that we hold today? In other words, what do you see today that could lead to the tomorrow of
McCarthy’s world? Include in your analysis at least TWO OR MORE of the POEMS we read alongside of The Road.
YOUR EVIDENCE SHOULD COME EXCLUSIVELY FROM THE NOVEL AND ACCOMPANYING POEMS THEMSELVES (DO NOT USE ANY
OTHER OUTSIDE SOURCES). In other words, what did you READ CLOSELY in this unit that prompted you to draw your
conclusions. Your responses should be authentic (i.e., similar to those reflective responses you wrote in the
homework assignments—draw upon these J!). More specifically, see if you can utilize a few of your own “GOLDEN
LINES” as you build your case.
I posted the files “The Road” by McCarthy, 5 poems, essay prompt and essay template. For detailed information, please see the “Essay Prompt” & “Essay Template” files. You can only use the main story and these 5 poem sources that I uploaded. Like what it said, you can use two or more poems. You don’t necessary need to use all 5 poems. There should be at least 2. I leave it to your choice.
Thanks.
