The philosophy behind community corrections assumes that most offenders have made poor decisions along the way. However, their need to retain responsibility or change overrides their threat to public safety. Therefore, they do not require incarceration. 

Address the following in a research paper of 5-7 pages: 

  • Research the advantages of keeping an offender in the community as opposed to incarceration.
  • Research the disadvantages of keeping the offender in the community as opposed to incarceration.
  • What are the weak points of this assumption?
  • Is the concept of community corrections still a good idea even if the assumption is wrong?
