PERSONAL DEFINITION OF ADVANCED PRACTICE – 3 points Based on what you have learned, write a personal definition of advanced practice nursing. This should be a reflective definition. It is NOT a quotation or description directly from a resource. DESCRIPTION OF THE INTERVIEWED APRN – 4 points Interview an advanced practice nurse working in a rural or underserved area. Write a description that includes his/her educational path and specialty training (how she got where she is today), and all relevant information about the clinical practice setting (geographic location, type of practice, population served). Include specific details that describe the qualities and characteristics unique to the APN and discuss how these impact his/her practice and relationships. SKILLS AND SERVICE OF THE INTERVIEWED APRN – 4 points Describe the APRNs skills and the services she provides; include job title, duties, responsibilities (clinical and administrative if applicable), general and specialized skills. Provide at least one specific example of how their position in the practice impacts patient care. Provide key aspects of the delivery of health services in their setting that are related to serving rural or underserved patients, or those with health disparities. ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS – 4 points Analyze an ethical issue that is relevant or unique in the practice setting and describe how the APRN approaches the issue. ECONOMICS OF ADVANCED PRACTICE NURSING – 4 points Discuss the impact of the APRN’S practice as it relates to health economics and reimbursement. Discuss factors that influence economics and reimbursement that are unique to the practice. Include issues related to the ACA, Medicare or Medicaid. COMPARISON AND REFLECTION – 4 points Compare and contrast the role of your interviewed APRN to your definition and reflection of advanced nursing practice (from earlier in the paper). Describe your personal vision and values related to advanced nursing practice. Reflect on how you will apply the attributes of your definition into your future practice or role and how your expanded understanding will impact your future patient care. CONCLUSION – 2 points Summarize the paper succinctly (no new information is to be presented in the conclusion); concisely describe the highlights of the nurse you interviewed; briefly summarize your vision and future goals for your advanced nursing practice. FORMATTING AND STYLE – 3 points PAPER LENGTH: MAXIMUM OF 5 PAGES FORMATTING: PAPER IS WRITTEN IN APA FORMAT and includes a title page, running head, 12-point-times, 1-inch margins, use of level 1 headers to organize the content, in-text citations, and reference page). GRAMMAR & STYLE: Paper contains less than 5 errors, has been proofread, and represents graduate student-level work. Proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and language use are attended to. The paper is organized, flows well with the use of transition sentences, is not redundant, and is easy to read. REFERENCES: At a minimum, you must have five references. In-text citations follow APA format and the reference page is present and in APA format.
