Final Internship Report (Portfolio) — The final product of the course will be an electronic portfolio that includes three student deliverables listed below according to the Submission Requirements about the Internship experience. Your portfolio should include the following pieces outlined in the description header and under “Student Deliverable”: 1. Revised and updated resume including a section detailing your internship (title, location, responsibilities/objectives, outcomes); Resume should also include education with graduation date; It is also recommended students include a section on “Specialized Courses” which will detail courses specific to the student’s major and minor that will help differentiate the student from other job applicants. Your resume should not exceed one page at this point in your career. Recruiters and hiring manager average 6 seconds when considering whether or not to interview new candidates. Make your one page resume impressive! Student Deliverable: Revised and updated resume that includes the internship experience and specialized classes where the student excelled. 2. Career Vision Statement : Information illustrating the student’s career plans. If the student has previous health care experience, it is okay to include information on how this experience will play a role in upcoming career plans. If the student is new to the health care industry, utilize this career vision statement as an opportunity to create a vision and path for achieving upcoming career plans. Including future plans with graduate school and professional associations is okay and encouraged. Also identifying what the student felt was missing or needed over the course of their education will help the student identify next steps of learning. Student Deliverable: One page document (maximum) of student’s Career Vision Statement written per APA guidelines. 3. Final Report: Students will complete a report that will review the internship and assess how the project was implemented, if the original project objectives were achieved, or changed and how the Health Care Management (HCM) curriculum has been incorporated into the project. It is expected that you will create a quality report that addresses the above items. The report, not including appendices, will be 1-2 pages in length and will include a a minimum of two competencies from the list of MSU-Denver Health Care Management (HCM) Program Competencies that were achieved during the internship. Note: Remember to utilize the notes you took for each journal submission. Student Deliverable: A one to two page document that includes application of a minimum of two of the HCM competencies achieved during the student’s internship experience per the following Submission Requirements. Health Care Management Program Competencies: The eight MSU Denver HCM competencies for health care managers as defined by the Healthcare Leadership Alliance, the American College of Healthcare Executives and the Metropolitan State University of Denver Health Care Management Program: 1. Knowledge of healthcare – Explains the delivery of health care services, and describes the structure, identifies key issues, appraises trends, and examines regulations within the health care industry. 2. Business/management skills – Applies management principles of human resources, finance, law, strategic planning and information technology. 3. Oral communications – Creates purposeful presentations and demonstrates effective delivery. 4. Written communications – Prepares carefully researched and documented work which is grammatically, organizationally, and conceptually aligned with the assignment given. 5. Teamwork – Works collaboratively towards goals, displays respectful interactions, and exhibits sufficient quality and quantity of contribution. 6. Professionalism – Exhibits the attitude and demeanor of professionals in the field; is prepared, punctual, and positive; demonstrates ethical behaviors and acceptance diversity. 7. Critical thinking – Assembles information, analyzes data, evaluates facts and perspectives and formulates a supported point of view and conclusions. 8. Personal growth and development – Demonstrates personal accountability, manages time, investigates opportunities, interested in learning and professional development. Submission Requirements and Directions Students will be required to include an appendix (labeled per APA “Appendix A, B, C,” etc.) within your report that provides additional evidence of project achievements, project summaries, agendas, minutes of meetings attended, work products, other reports, or survey instruments, etc. You are allowed to include 2-3 “pieces of evidence.” Please note an easy way to satisfy Final Report and Submission Requirements is to use and reference your 2-3 pieces of evidence in your final report and link them to the listed HCM Competencies. Because this is an electronic portfolio, you will need to insert the “pieces of evidence” into the document that comprises the portfolio as appendices (review on APA appendices Links to an external site.). Be sure to save plenty of time to prepare these documents as it might be necessary to scan the items in order for them to be suitable to insert into your document. Format: Follow the guidelines for written work – APA formatting (review on APA formatting Links to an external site.) to include: Cover page in APA format In-text citations (as needed and appropriate) Reference Page Table of contents Page numbers per APA format
