Argumentative/Persuasive Essay Guidelines, Example, and Tips
When drafting the paper, remember the required 6 parts (Aristotle’s 6-Point Checklist) outlined in Lesson 13:
3. Proposal to Remedy
4. Argument for Proposal
6. Call to Action
Also, keep in mind the requirements of the assignment:
The persuasive essay must be 6-8 pages (1,800 – 2,400 words). No block quotes or quotes longer than two lines are permitted in the essay and the bibliography page will not be included in the word/page count. This essay must clearly take a definable stance regarding an issue and defend it powerfully and effectively. The essay should demonstrate the standards of good argument and clearly and fully address each aspect of Aristotle’s 6-Point Checklist.
The persuasive essay must use a minimum of 5 sources, distributed as follows:
1. Internet (web sites)—at least 2 sources
2. Academic Publications (Books, Journals, Articles, and/or Periodicals)—at least 3 sources
Please remember that you MUST include a works cited page, and you must have in-text citations within the body of the paper. Otherwise, the paper will be plagiarized.
Also, remember this is a formal academic paper, so you should not use second person “you” or first person “I” in the paper–unless these words are in direct quotations. Instead, the paper should be written in third person.
I attached an annotated bibliography I completed for one of my sources, I also linked the source below
