This essay is an ACADEMIC RESEARCH paper, and you can elect to write a thorough biography of a notable African-American, or you are also able to write up a narrative history of a significant historical event in African-American history up to 1877.

Besides the list of people provided in your text and on Blackboard and in documentaries, students can use events like slave revolts, abolition conventions, slave escape stories, or similar big events. There needs to be good research available, of course, and documentation of sources.

The essay should be a minimum of 1000 words and submitted RIGHT HERE on BLACKBOARD. Be sure to edit carefully, and make generous use of in-text citations. The more you cite your research, the more it appears you did your research!

Sources must all be academic sources, i.e. academic research websites like Academic Search, books, scholarly articles available in print or online and even elements of scholarly documentaries. Use the resources provided to you through the RCBC Library page.

Papers must be formatted using APA, MLA or Chicago Manual of Style. Pick the academic format that you know best.

Essays which rely exclusively on web page sources will earn a grade no higher than a C.

To reiterate, NO Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman or Nat Turner.

ALSO your person must have lived within the timeline covered by this course. No modern people! You may pick Sojourner Truth to make things easier!!!!
