Please respond to the two prompts below.
.
Prompt One:
Please go to the Committee to Protect Journalist website and find a story about a reporter who has been persecuted (detained, jailed, or murdered) for simply doing his or her role as a reporter. The stories of persecuted journalists are found under the News tab, then select Alerts from the dropdown menu.
The location of the persecution for the story you select may be any country other than the United States.
Once you have identified a story, compose a brief essay in which you briefly summarize the case (50 words or less).
Then, imagine the story occurred in the United States and analyze which US press freedoms would have been violated. Refer to the textbook using in-text parenthetical citations to the course concepts that were violated. Feel free to include and discuss any historical legal precedents that led to the press freedoms you discuss.
In other words, think of it this way — if the same story you read about had occured in the United States, which press freedoms would the journalist claim were violated, and what is the legal history behind that press freedom?
Prompt Two:
Repeat the first prompt again, but use a different story referring to different course concepts that were violated if the story had occured in the United States.
Response Guidelines:
Your response to each prompt should be a minimum of 300 words (50 word summary of the case + 250 or more words analysis and synthesis of the case).
Compose your paper following APA format. A sample APA paper may be found under the “Course Documents” tab.
Do not conduct any outside research. You should only use our course textbook to generate your knowledge base, but do not quote the text. Instead, paraphrase the material as needed in your paper.
I am seeking your understanding of the text and analytical thinking to drive your responses. As such, please refrain from providing extended examples in your responses; my preference would be that you do not use any examples at all in your responses.
Do not use second person pronouns in your paper. First person pronouns are acceptable and welcomed.
AI generated responses and plagiarized response will result in a failing grade without the opportunity for resubmittal. I use this AI checker, so you may wish to see what I will see when grading your paper.
