Please answer the following prompt with a well thought out and carefully edited essay. In responding, you should rely on class readings/PowerPoints. Your answer should be at least 750 words in length.
Prompt: As we have seen in this class so far, the label “Hero” can be attached to a wide variety of figures many of whom seem to otherwise have little in common with one another. To make sense of this, critical questions are: 1) who considers them to be heroes?; and 2) what characteristics and actions associated with them are seen as heroic?
To answer this prompt, select a person (historical, religious, political, etc.) that you do not consider to be a hero or heroic but who is seen as such by someone else. Approaching the topic as an objective observer, try to explain in detail why the individual is considered to be a hero. What is their appeal? Why are they important to those who follow/idealize them? As much as is possible, utilize perspectives on the heroic outlined in our course textbook and class discussion.
