Here’s the prompt 
Use this journal to record your reflections on the contemporary theory. Submit a journal entry once a week. 
At least two entries are required while a third entry can be completed for extra credit (select from functionalism, conflict theory, phenomenology, or symbolic interaction). This section also provides opportunity for a fourth journal entry exploring rational choice/exchange theory, for additional extra credit. 
For a particular area of theory, answer the following: 
1) Based on the readings assigned, describe the main themes of this theory. In other words, summarize the theory. Synthesis the ideas of the different texts assigned as representing this theory, and include the names of the specific theorists. 
2) Discuss something you agree with.  
3) Discuss something you disagree with. 
4) Explore the influence of the classical theorists on this theory and the classical theorists whose work this theory rejects (vis a vis the influence seen in their specific texts – discuss specific contemporary theorists by name) . 
Discuss how their theories responds to and contrasts with (if applicable) previously discussed contemporary theories (i.e. compare functionalism [Parsons; Davis & Moore; Merton] to Durkheim, Marx, Weber, Simmel, Mead, and DuBois. Compare conflict theory to functionalism, Durkheim, Marx, Weber, Simmel, Mead, and DuBois. etc).
5) Describe the theory’s implications for methodology. i.e. how would this theory influence research design (operationalization, data collection, data analysis, etc.)?
