He is anxious at times and is uncomfortable during therapy. He is grumpy at times and does not like to use his incentive spirometer.
After a few days at home, he develops a raspy cough, expiratory wheezes, and is unable to clear secretions. Throughout the day, he is lethargic and fatigued but dismisses the symptoms.
Later, he is short of breath and unable to walk more than a few feet.
His wife calls the physician’s office and is told to take him to the ED.
