Think about the concept of revenue centers, they are often referred to as either profit centers or cost centers, depending on whether the business units make or lose money. For instance, at one time PBX was once a valuable profit center for hotels and is now seen as a cost center.

Think about some amenities that hotels may offer that may not be as profitable as others, what are they?
Knowing that one of the primary functions of a hotel is to make a reasonable profit for its investors, why would you even consider keeping business units around that are not very profitable and may even be viewed primarily as cost centers?
