Assignment Task

The Minister for Agriculture, the Hon. Barnaby Joyce, released the National Soil Research, Development and Extension Strategy for Australia in March 2014.

There has been an update with the National Soil Strategy in 2021. You can examine their priorities. The Australian Soil Network (a group of key stakeholder organisations) is implementing the strategy through Five research priorities, which are listed on the pdf uploaded to this block. One of them is soil communication and the focus of this block is to examine one of your previous themes and decide what the communication message is.

Select a topic from any one of the previous themes of this unit to design an education/extension strategy for, and place nominated topic on discussion forum by 27 January:

  1. Soil Pollution
  2. Climate Change and Carbon Farming
  3. Soil Heath Assessment
  4. Global Nutrient Balances

I will then get you to view the other presentations in your group forum and rate them out of 10, and explain your rating. Each presentation is 5 minutes, and should cover the major points for your topic selection.

  1. What is the extension message or education need?
  2. Who is the audience?
  3. What strategies will you be using to connect with your audience?
  4. How will you measure the extension or education program success with your audience?
  5. What resources (people, time or funding) need to be in place for future success of your extension or education strategy?
