Assignment Instructions:
In chapter 6 (also see second lecture and chapter handout) you read about the role memory plays shaping in eyewitness testimony. Think back on the Case of Ronald Cotton, and Jennifer Thompson. Using the concepts your learned about memory and eyewitness testimony from the readings and the attached videos, answer the following questions.
Discuss the main factors that allowed Jennifer to produce false memories and false testimony against Ronald Cotton.
Also briefly discuss why it is so difficult for an eyewitness to produce accurate testimony.
If you were a consultant to the police, what changes/ suggestions would you make to the eyewitness testimony process? Please identify at least 2 suggestions you would make based on the research evidence.
