Exploring the Characteristics and Similarities/Differences Between American Deaf Culture and Hearing Culture: A Study of Thoughts, Beliefs, Values, Language, and Behavior Patterns

Each student is required to write one (1) research paper using information from book readings, film showing, and attendance at Deaf community events and ASL club meetings to answer the following question:
Research Question
What is culture? What are the characteristics of the American Deaf culture in thoughts, beliefs, values, language, and behavior patterns? What are the locations where Deaf culture is found? How is the Deaf culture similar to the hearing culture? Explain why there are similarities. How is the Deaf culture differ from the hearing culture? Explain why there are differences.
Film Showing:
Students will watch two (2) films during the semester about deaf culture in class. Students will take notes and prepare to use as part of the references in their research paper.
