“Analyzing Scholarly Articles: A Critical Review of [Article Name] and Its Contribution to the Conversation on [Topic]”

The goal of this type of composition is to summarize another essay, ascertain the thesis and positions
presented in the text, and to present feedback about the efficacy of the text as well as the message it
proposes. Your assignment is to pick one of the scholarly articles that you have either identified in your
annotated bibliography or that you will be using in your Final Research Essay and perform this analysis.
You may also take two articles and discuss how these articles are in conversation with one another,
identifying how they either build on one another by developing concepts, extending concepts, or refuting
claims. To help with the analysis, you can refer to the “Engaging Sources” slide deck to determine how
the scholar creatively agrees or disagrees with the conversation about that subject. You can also examine
the rhetorical tactics that the author uses to make their point, identifying the elements of the rhetorical
ecology involved including audience, purpose, context, exigence, environment/community and/or kairos.
Your paper needs to be at least 500 words typed, double-spaced and must conform to MLA guidelines.
